This article looks at the ways in which blogs can be used in an educational way and if it could change current learning methods. It also looks at prior studies and they develop a model for the use in blogs in educational contexts by taking into account socio-technical systems theory. I found it a very interesting read and really helped me to understand better, the use of blogs for my target user group ‘Students trying to learn’.
Summary of Student trying to learn
•May 18, 2010 • Leave a CommentYang and Chung did a study as they were trying to find out if web-based learning environment was preferred than individual instructions by lecturers.
They asked 500 Taiwan university students which they preferred and the result was that by further research they preferred individual and structured configurations while still expected the outward mode of interaction.
It was found that in general students held a rather contextual belief about web-based learning. (Yang, Chung 2008) This shows that even with all the modern technological advances in web-based learning people still prefer individual learning with good interaction involved with the learning instead of just full web-based learning with no human interaction. A website designed for students wanting to learn needs to make sure it’s accessible, usable and have good navigation to material on the website.
